Diagnostics and Imaging

Understanding what’s wrong is the foundation of sick care for our pets and they deserve every opportunity to diagnose the problem and provide proper treatment. Roosevelt takes this objective seriously and provides the following diagnostic and imaging services:

Radiology

We have offered digital radiography (X-ray) for over a decade. It provides a very high level of detail when imaging our patients. After getting the images we can manipulate them to help us see certain areas more in depth. Our patients do not usually have to be sedated for this procedure however there are those occasions where sedation allows us to get the best results.

Ultrasound

We have an in house ultrasound machine which gives us the opportunity to quickly diagnose many common ailments as well as help us determine the level of care emergencies require. We are often looking for bladder problems when animals have blood in the urine, or intestinal obstructions when pets have a history of eating things. In emergency situations we can see free fluid in the chest or abdomen as well as cancerous masses.

EKG

Many of us are familiar with electrocardiograms (EKG) as they are the tracing of the heart beat. We use this when we have patients with heart murmur or arrhythmia. We usually send out the results to a cardiologist for consultation and treatment recommendations.

Blood Chemistry Analyzer

Our blood analyzer can give us measurements of the twelve most important blood components in a matter of 15 minutes and with a very small amount of sample. This allows us to determine if pets are having kidney problems, diabetes, electrolyte disturbances and many more important disease processes.

Lab work

A complete physical includes a heartworm test, fecal flotation test for intestinal parasites, urine analysis, and a red blood cell count as anemia (decrease in the number of red blood cells) can indicate the presence of a number of disease processes. For pets six years of age or older, we also perform a complete blood cell count and a chemistry profile in order to create a baseline of systemic health and to detect any emergent disease processes.
